Tours guided by Friends are a wonderful opportunity to get a fresh perspective on the landscapes of the greater Mount Pisgah area. Learn about the flora, fauna, geology and history of this special part of the Willamette Valley from staff and volunteers with decades of experience and expertise in caring for its habitats and inhabitants.

Spring 2023:

Trails, Fire and Fuels Tour with Friends Stewardship Director, Jason Blazar

Jason Blazar, Stewardship Director for Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah, will lead a tour addressing the experience of fire and wildfire within Howard Buford Recreation Area over the past 24 years, discussing the trials and tribulation of prescribed fire implementation, reviewing our 2023 prescribed burn units in the Meadowlark East and South Management Units, and discussing trails improvements underway along trail 3E and how trails compliment fire management within the park.
May 3:  4-6pm
Trail 2,3,56,6 loop (easy difficulty)

Prairie-Savanna-Woodland Restoration Tour

Jason Blazar, Stewardship Director for Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah, will lead a tour of through the Eastern Uplands Stewardship Zone on the east side of Howard Buford Recreation Area. The tour will include a historical perspective of prairie, savanna, and woodland habitats and discussion of the host of restoration and stewardship actions being taken by Friends and Lane County Parks to enhance the rare habitats found there.

Solstice Sunrise Summit Hike with Friends Stewardship Director, Jason Blazar

A brisk walk along trail 1, listening and watching for birds along the way, we will arrive at the summit around sunrise. We will gather and witness the dawn of the longest day of the year as it is tracked through the Kesey monument. For those interested, we will walk and talk about the park’s 50th anniversary, visit with populations of native plants, and review the Oregon white oak demonstration project 15 years following tree removal as we meander back to the trail head.

- Trail 1 ascent (moderate difficulty)
